Jehangiri removed as special prosecutorSindh government approves appointment of Nisar Ahmed Durrani
Karachi
The Sindh chief minister on Sunday authorised the removal of Mushtaq Jehangiri, the special public prosecutor working on the cases against former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain, and the appointment of Nisar Ahmed Durrani in his stead.
The move comes a day after the Rangers filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against the possible transfer of Jehangiri, who had come out with allegations of undue pressure against the government last Friday.
In their petition, the Rangers accused the government of harbouring ulterior motives and submitted that they were trying to influence the investigation and prosecution of the trial against Dr Hussain.
The Rangers claimed that, following the transfer of the investigation officer, the Sindh government wants to replace Jehangiri to help out Dr Hussain, who is known to be a close aide of former president and Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
