Rohit Sharma played a blistering innings of 83 runs off just 55 deliveries to help India comfortably win the inaugural encounter of Asia Cup T20 against hosts Bangladesh by 45 runs in Mirpur on Wednesday.
The Indian opener hit 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings and only got out in the last over helping his side set a challenging 167 run target for Bangladesh. He was given the man of the match award for this performance.
Hardik Pandya, in a supporting role performance, made an 18-ball 31 while Yuvraj Singh with 15 and Suresh Raina 13 also contributed to the team total of 166 for 6 wickets.
For Bangladesh, only Sabbir Rehman could manage to put a little resistance scoring 44 runs off 32 deliveries as they manage to reach 122 for the loss of 7 wickets in full 20 overs.
Ashish Nehra grabbed three wickets while Bumrah, Pandya, Ashwin took a wicket each for India.
Al-Amin Hossain was the pick of Bangladeshi bowlers grabbing three wickets while captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan shared a wicket each.
Earlier, Mortaza had won the toss and opted to bowl first on a noticeably green Mirpur pitch.
